First real work with the Surface Grinder
One of the guys I worked with a back rotor on his motorcycle get eaten by a pad. The cost of rotors kind of high and before buying a new one, I told him I would give it a try. The set up grind took 2.5 hours for one side. Min is 6mm and I stop at 6.38. I only did one side as the other is good shape. I'll leave it up to the owner if he would like me to cut side two.
Setup: I stoned the bottom. This was the mount side of the rotor to the wheel. I figured this was true position. The rotary table I have is large and didn't really fit on the mag base but it did work. I had hoped to cut back and forth going on and off the outside of the disk but couldn't get the space I needed. Next, I found a unused part of the rotor the pads would normally ride on and used is to check run out. One spot had a -.007. After looking at it, I could see were something had rubbed over this area. I start the cuts on what I used to true the cut and ran out to the edge waiting for contact. I cut .220 before I started to cut outer edge.
The left took off .125 and so on. The last two cut I only lowered the grinder .005 for two clean up passes. The last pass took off the last hint of the damage inflicted by the offending pad.
