I picked up a Atlas Shaper. This is a very old tool. I bought it from a son after his father past. This was in the basement of the house and the son didn't know much about it. It looks like it had been rebuilt or almost fully done rebuild.
This has a 7 inch stroke. It is missing the vice, but a lot of the parts at there. I need to get some oil cups for it. I used it for some small projects and it works great. It leaves a very smooth surface. |
My plan for this tool is to build s vise for it. I built the "T" nuts for it. The vise you see to the left is a cheap-o HF POS. I check the base to the the vices flat and bottom and it was almost .01 difference from one end to the other. To make this vise worst, the jaws keeper under the vice was thin sheet metal and bent.
Later in this cut the round popped out due to the movable jaw lifting. |
