Acer 618 Surface Grinder
This is a surface Grinder Acer 618. It was taken out of service from a school in Missouri. It had a banging noise that they didn't know how to fix. If I rotated the grinding wheel back and forth I could hear it banging. The 1st photo show the motor removed and you can see the spider (white thing). Its like a Lovejoy shaft connector. The real funny part about this is the part to fix this was in the tool box that came with it.
I played hell getting it running. It is 220 3 phase motor and I am driving it with a 3 phase rotary generator. The big problem was all the safeties in the control box.
This also has a coolant/dust collector. I had to order a pump (ebay). It still have to clean it out. WOW that going to be a mess. That might be a trip to the car wash. Before any one starts yelling the only thing in there is stone and metal. All the coolant is gone.
More on this later.
Later (July 2019) I cleaned out the coolant tank and added in a drain valve. I only run the heat when I am in the barn during the winter. The grinder has become a very valued tool for me. I am looking for a couple of spindles so I don't have to change the stone on it every time I need a different grit. I only have one and changing stones means to I have to rebalance.
I need to make some shields and I would really like to add some servos to it.
I have used it clean up a brake rotor for a friend. Not something I would normally do but is was a temp fix till he could get parts.
