This is what was given to me.
It had hit a jeep
Mike always said he was a great driver. Well not when he was at the wheel. Mike also had a drinking problem. Over the years, Mike really didn't take care of the car.
The paint coming off the hood is from a fire under hood from a fuel leak and a backfire though the carb. I still remember that night. Flames came out from under the whole car. Mike always started the car by turning the key and waiting for the pump to wind down. This time it didn't. It kept on pumping. |
Off goes the hood
The car had a bad life. It has been in so many hands. Most of the past owners had they way with her and left her is worst shape.
I found the radiator support welded to both fenders. I can't say I was surprised. The floors are gone, there are holes most of the way around the windshield. The frame is bent in the front right, and I would guess the frame rails under the motor are bent outward. The trunk floor is peppered with holes and the rear deck is a waste of time. It is truly a basket case. |
It's what you can't see
The leak around the windshield started because someone used RTV to hold the trim on. The RTV held water. When it rusted out it lead to water getting to the carpet. The floors are a gone. Found newspaper in bags covering the floor. When I lift it, the whole was bigger than the steering wheel for this car.
The only thing good is the side and back glass and the dash pad. |
Update
The wheel in this picture is what Mike was running. Every time the car hit a bump, I remember the tire hitting the fender. That and the water coming in around the back window finished the body. The bottom of the fenders are gone due to the help from the salt that is poured on the roads in Illinois. |
The car was the green when it was new. Someone did a paint job to black. As you can see the, that owner didn't know how t prep the body for painting.
